Welcome to The Flour Girl Shop!

I'm Lindsay, the creator and cake artist behind The Flour Girl and co-founder of The Flour Girl Shop! If you couldn't already tell, I'm obsessed with baking! For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed baking with my mom and sister. We didn't bake often, but my mom always made sure that cakes were had for birthdays and that Christmases were always filled with a variety of homemade cookies. When I was old enough to bake on my own, I would make the odd dessert here and there, but I didn't have a clue about the world of cake decorating...

Fast forward to the summer of 2015, where my dear friend Melody, my mom and I all signed up for a basic cake decorating class. To be honest, I still didn't bake much after taking this class. About a year later 2016, a new opportunity was presented to me. I began my master's degree in neuroscience where I researched the cellular neurobiology of Parkinson's disease. Little did I know, this was going to be one of the most stressful times of my life. I turned to baking as an outlet to cope with a very difficult bout of anxiety. 

Between my experiments, performing rodent neurosurgeries, and writing my masters thesis, I loved to bake: for family events, birthdays, my mom's work, even my dogs' birthdays! By the time 2017 hit, I had all my family and friends telling me I should start taking orders. I didn't really give it much thought and impulsively started an Instagram page simply to share what I was making. I named it @theflourgirl_! The amount of support I have received since creating this account has been been overwhelmingly positive! Am I'm proud to say that I made it through my master's degree thanks to my family and baking.

Currently, I am a radiation therapist while taking custom dessert orders, creating content for social media, as well as building my brand. The Flour Girl shop was started in Toronto, Canada with both the new and the experienced baker in mind. It is important to us to encourage you to work hard for what you want, learn to be your best self, gain the confidence to try new techniques and designs, and follow your dreams! The tools that we use to bake can make a big impact on the overall baking experience. We wanted to create a collection that meets quality standards with tools that are easy to use, functional, reusable, durable AND that reflect The Flour Girl style aesthetics. Materials for each item have been selected to ensure they are made to last. While there are many great brands out there for baking tools, you are also supporting a small business when you make a purchase from us!
